RELINQUISHMENTS

Some people experience Dr. Hawkins as the presence of a “Bodhisattva.” A Bodhisattva is one who works to overcome imperfections on the level of earth, and works with civilization as a whole, removing the dross that does not serve us and increases that which needs to be strengthened.

Discovery of the Presence of God: DEVOTIONAL NONDUALITY
by David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D.

The sixth book in a progressive series by the author is primarily an instruction manual for the serious spiritual devotee and reveals information that is known only by those who have transcended the ego to reach Divine Realization. This is the inner route from the self to the Self, and the descriptions of the progressive states are devoted to the reader’s own Illumination.

Quotes that helped me when my mind/ego began alerting me that this spiritual teaching may lead my mind to oblivion:

Ninety-nine percent of the mind is already silent and without linear content. Only one percent is active (as proven by consciousness calibration research), but that one percent is the focus of attention. Note by close observation that each thought arises from a silent, clear field of energy that is the source of thinkingness, ideas, and images. It does not arise, as the mind presumes, as a result of linear causation. On the contrary, each thought arises independently of all others, like fly fish flying out of the ocean. The ocean is like the silent, primary, a priori condition of the mind and thoughts. The concept that they are somehow caused or meaningfully correlated is actually a superimposed afterthought. Each fly fish arises independently of the others out of the primordial stillness. Interpretation or meaning is via the observer who, for example, upon seeing three fish jump out of the water simultaneously, says, “Look how the fish are triangulating.” The mind translates phenomena in 1/10,000th of a second; thus, the mind is like a playback monitor of a tape recorder. When that interface of mind between phenomena and experiencing dissolves, the difference is quite dramatic. p. 80

Q: Then how can one silence the mind?
A: One cannot. It stops of its own accord when the energy of interest is removed. It is of greater service to merely disown it and stop identifying with it as ‘my mind’. Thoughts are the automatic consequence of a specific calibrated level of consciousness plus personalization by which they gain value. With RELINQUISHMENT of the activation of memory, one LIVES IN THE EMERGENT INSTANT rather than hanging on to the past or anticipating the future. p. 81

…Thoughts, ideas, and concepts are of pragmatic and useful value to worldliness, but with the RELINQUISHMENT of worldliness, they are excess baggage and of no value…Thinkingness is intrinsically a vanity. Survival is spontaneous and autonomous, an automatic karmic consequence. Even when the mind becomes totally silent, the body goes about its business like a karmic wind-up toy. p. 82

One can surrender the desire of thinkingness to God, which then quickly brings up the mind's fear of survival. At that point, one has to surrender the will to survive to God. If one stops thinking there is the fear of being mindless. To be thoughtless is called ‘Divine idiocy’ or ‘Divine stupidity’. However whatever needs to be known will reveal itself, not as thoughts but as comprehension, understanding, apperception via totalities. The Infinite Reality is omniscient and independent of talkingness, thinkingness, and verbalization of words. It is of no value to the Self. The ego/mind believes it that if it stops thinking/feeling, the personal self will die for it is intrinsic to the ego’s survival system. The ego/self identifies with that which is linear, discrete, separate, and definable, i.e., content. p. 85

Meditation
Style 3: Bypassing the Mind

Whereas Style 1 and 2 are educative, Style 3 is purely subjective/experiential and not mental, psychological, emotional, or conceptual. It is the most rapid and basic and consist of a simple ‘doingness’... p. 85-86 (describes the process)

Q: What replaces the mind when it disappears?
A: Divine wisdom unfolds. Consciousness/awareness remains but it is an autonomous quality or condition. Loss of mind does not result in ‘nothingness’; on the contrary, it is replaced by Allness. The leaf is not the tree. It is safe to abandon any identification with what one thinks or believes one is for none of it is real, and ‘nothingness’ is purely an imagination. p. 86-87

Q: But is not control necessary for survival?
A: Let God worry about your survival. If it serves the Self to dump the body, so let it be. In a strict spiritual practice, the time will come when one actually has permission to leave the worldly body…. p. 89-90

Q: It sounds as though serious spiritual work may eventually preclude one’s customary lifestyle?
A: That is so. … The challenge brings up issues to be processed, such as attachments to others, to possessions, to lifestyles, and to concepts such as duty, obligation, responsibility, etc. In the end, to the true devotee, pursuit of spiritual reality supersedes all other considerations. The commitment to become enlightened involves the decision, ‘No matter what.' p. 90

Q: That sounds alarming.
A: The entity who is alarmed and seems confronted by such a situation is not the same one who asks the question. The need for a critical major decision does not arise until sufficient strength is present to handle it. That is why it is unwise to force spiritual progress by artificial means. To facilitate it is one thing; to try to force it is another. p. 90

Hi Debbie, happy New Year! I got back after almost 2 months in Sedona, my longest "Doc" trip so far. Hope you are well and had a joyful Christmas with your family :-). Lots of Love,

Hi Debbie:

Happy Thanksgiving; and Christmas; and New Year! Finally got around to looking up the links to those two site that you sent me. Will go through more in depth later. By the brief glance it would seem that his Ning site is more costly than this one? More features?

Debbie: the kids are always bubbly, except when they are not! I am a muscle-testing flunky--I have not been practicing...you?

I am super-proud of your endeavors with ACIM. I, too, am working both sides--simultaneously. Some serious re-contextualizations have hit me!

Retail store? You are naturally welcoming and gracious!

I am watching lectures, listening to satsangs, and listening to the Nightengale/Covenant series when possible. I am still working on Healing and Recovery, too.

I have guilty feelings about the energy I'm putting towards my job--and that is a sure-fire belief system...

It's great to connect. God bless! -Amy

Hi Debbie:

Thanks for the information about Luis Diaz and his ning site.

A group of us got together last Saturday to practice what we had learned at Andrew's workshop. Are you acquainted with Judy Field? She too has taken it, and I imagine that there must be others in Texas who have done so as well, with whom you could practice.

Happiness and Peace *smile*

Hi Debbie:

Glad that we had the chance to meet and spend two and a half days together before the lecture!

What is the address of the other ning site that you were telling me about?

Hi Debbie, great to hear from you, and yes, I plan to be there for the Lecture and look forward to seeing you there! I am very inspired by Laurie's invitation for the retreat in Houston in conjunction with the relics and 'd love to be there but have not committed formally to attend it as yet, waiting for a few other things to fall in place.

Thank you once again for writing, and thanks be to Thee O Lord for the gift of our Teacher and holy companions! Peace!!
Peace to us all!!

Hi Debbie:

Unless you have a phone that can access GPS or an actual GPS device, then I would recommend that you do a google or mapquest of the route between the airport and the location of the workshop-and print it out to bring with you. The rental car companies are all located in a separate building at the airport, and you will have to take a shuttle to get to it. Be prepared for rush hour traffic until you are past the metro Phoenix area.

I wouldn't worry about missing a little bit at the beginning, because you can review the material in the manual afterward.

Hi, Debbie~

Glad you are joining us for the class! It will not be a problem if you arrive a little late. It always takes a while for folks to arrive and get settled. Just travel safely.

Could you please email me directly from your own email account so I can forward you the "logistics" email for the class? My email address is AHWSupport@gmail.com.

Blessings,

Sherri

Absolutely, Debbie! What's new? Have you heard anything further about H-town?

Here's something interesting. My only concern is it specifies "Christian" which I have no problem with other than it's somewhat exclusive of other aspects of Doc's work which hinges greatly on classic Buddhism and some might take issue with that.

Hi Debbie, I just spoke to the Pines Hotel asking about Thursday night in case there are no flight delays and I can go to Cottonwood Thursday afternoon. I explained that I was sharing a room with you and they said that your reservation covers Thursday 14 th as well as Friday and Saturday. Any chance we can share on Thursday night as well or do you need the room for yourself (in which case they have a spare room I can reserve)? Blessings, Agi

Hi Debbie, I have now finalised my trip and am definitely coming. I am so happy! Thank you for agreeing to share the room with me and waiting :). I am scheduled to land in Phoenix on 14th October (Thursday) afternoon, which gives plenty of time for getting to Cottonwood, either the same day or Friday, depending on flight delays, etc. Just to confirm, I can check in the Pines on Friday afternoon and have to leave Sunday morning? Thank you so much again and I look forward to meeting you! Blessings, Agi
