(Pag 123) "The key is the willingness to look at it and say, "Well, I don't really believe this, but it is said that my mind has the power to create an illness within my body, so I'm willing to look at that because I have an open mind." As we open our mind and are willing to agree, our intention aligns and we begin to move into accepting what we discover. We begin to find that moving into lovingness has a curative and healing effect. How is that accomplished? The willingness to forgive can move us into the willingness to be compassionate. Having compassion means the willingness to see the innocence within all things, which coincides with the willingness to forgive. Out of compassion and intention arise the power and capacity to really see into the hearts of others and discover the innocence of the child.
Within each and everyone is that intrinsic innocence that never dies, no matter how long we live; it is intrinsic to the nature of consciousness itself. The innocence of the child is what bought the mistake or the negative program in the first place. It is helpful to be aware that the intrinsic innocence of the child is still present in everyone. It is the innocence that watches television and naïvely buys into the negative programming due to its lack of discernment. The innocence of the child has no warning within it, nothing that says, "This is a world that is out to program you with as much negativity as you are willing to buy." In fact, that world gets well paid to do so because advertising is often based on appealing to the negative energy fields. All of our fears, desires, and pridefulness are represented below the level of 200. It takes the willingness to be aware that within us is our innocence, and that that innocence needs to be protected.
When we look at `self-care', which is the capacity to love one's self, we find it now means taking responsibility to protect ourselves from the consequences of that innocence and the willingness to undo mistakes that the mind picked up as a result. We can then handle looking at ourselves and healing that which we find within us if we accept the awareness of the intrinsic innocence of our consciousness. We see that it was the innocence that was programmed. We then take responsibility for that and say, "In my innocence, I bought all that; I didn't know any better. I thought that the right thing to do was to be judgmental, to condemn people, and to judge them as right or wrong. Now I see that all that has made me sick, so I'm going to let it go."The people who were willing to look into this and go through the processes already described had complete, full recoveries from their illnesses.
The capacity to be forgiving is within us, along with the capacity for compassion. Out of it comes a general attitude about the way in which we look at ourselves. From our bigness, from our greatness, we look at our humanness through forgiving eyes and begin to forgive ourselves as well as others for all the things that were limitations and denials of the truth. All the things in the energy fields below 200 are denials of the truth; all those above 200 are the acceptance of that which is true and positive. Because the body reflects what the mind believes, and the mind reflects our spiritual position, spirit has the greatest power of all. Therefore, our spiritual position literally determines whether we have a healthy physical body or not.
Once we are willing to accept the power of mind, we have to be attentive, persevering, and not let mind get away with expressing negativity. We have to stop it as soon as we become aware of it. We begin to develop an awareness of negativity and recognize it for what it is. We let go of false humility and start questioning such remarks as, "Well, you know, I'm not very bright," or "My handwriting is poor," or "I gain weight eating the same amount of food that thin people eat." The minute we become aware of ourselves saying or thinking these limiting, self-defeating, self-attacking thoughts, we have to stop and cancel them."

We become aware of the joy and the thankfulness for our existence and the existence of our consciousness. The body is then included within the field of consciousness itself. We come again to the surprising thought that the body is within the mind.( my italics) Most people...think that the mind is somewhere 'up here' in their head. Actually, when it is being experienced, it is found to be everywhere. ..Inner experience will tell us that the experience of the thought and the experience of the body are occurring nonlocally everywhere... We understand that the body is sitting in the chair, but that understanding is being experienced in no specific place. It is happening within consciousness itself. "p.137
"In this chapter, certain things have been repeated several times because of the mind's resistance to accepting the truth of it (my italics)...It is difficult when we are dealing with healing and health because we are really reversing the mind's belief in causality. We are saying that the physical is the expression of the mental, and not vice-versa. The world would like to say that it is the other way around ...Realizing that we are making a major move in consciousness allows us to value all our knowledge about illness and health and to use it as a springboard to our own spiritual growth and development. p.138
As in all spiritual work, it is discovered that the mind resists letting go on negative programs despite the suffering that it occasions. The source of this resistance is the secret payoff that the ego gets from negativity. The ego derives pleasure from 'justified' resentments, blame, self-pity, and all the rest. Thus what has to be surrendered is the gratification the mind gets from the negativity. Secretly, people just 'love' to hate, blame, and get even as well as being 'right' or 'superior', and more. Nursing grievances extracts a cost in being prone to illness as well as resistance to recovery. Self-honesty is therefore the key to making progress and increasing well-being." p. 138
Permalink Reply by Diana on February 3, 2012 at 11:55pm the issue of payoffs from negative emotions is one that I end up addressing a lot in my work with people. I see the overall payoff- that these emotions keep us in a small, powerless position of victim, and allow us to continue to not take responsibility for our actions as well as allowing the ego to maintain control. What about addiction to certain emotions, the adrenaline rush, or what about apathy where there is no adrenaline rush? Can anyone refer me to more info about this?
Hi Diana,
I need to catch up with you in the reading. But I found a paragraph that might answer part of your question, in Assisting Healing p. 48, 2nd paragraph. It lumps apathy in with all the emotions below courage.
Permalink Reply by Diana on February 4, 2012 at 8:48pm I would like to address a very specific issue, not a general one, which relates to the ego payoffs. In the June lecture 2006- there is a segment of it on You Tube about "If you're feeling stuck'" where Dr. Hawkins talks about the negative emotions we have. He says that you don't have to let go of hating people, of being afraid, etc, all you have to do is be willing to let go of the payoff. He says that we are not really stuck on the hatred of a person, but that we are stuck on the payoff associated with it. I am having difficulty understanding this, as he seems to be differentiating the negative emotion from the payoff, which is a satisfaction associated with a negative emotion. Is this like an addiction to a specific emotion? I know people who never feel anger, but who always seem stuck in fear. And is the payoff different for different emotions? Can anyone offer some more information about "the payoff",- I don't have this lecture.
Permalink Reply by NachoTM on February 5, 2012 at 3:46pm Hi Diana, the "pay off" for the ego are nuclear issue.
I think the main thing you must understand is that for the ego, their survival is more important than your well-being.
The ego needs to get "juice" from you to survive .... and usesthe art of deception. The ego is radical in its objective and does not mind the cost to others or to you.
The deception is to make you believe that you live through theego. the opposite is true. The ego needs you. You do not need the ego at all. But the ego knows about you and knows how toconfuse you.
When you see the truth .... day of the ego are numbered ...
your "pay off" for the ego because you think that is what "must do" to survive ...
When you open the power you are leaving the force because you understand that it is "better" ...
The process of letting go (Endura was called by the Cathars of southern France in the Middle Ages), is to choose that which gives us strength (power, right) and let go those that weakens us (force, false).
In use, the process is being facilitated to go providing the superior qualities of mind and increased energy of love (loc).
The subject is vast and I hope that we continue the discussion.

Permalink Reply by Diana on February 12, 2012 at 1:42pm The ego gets a grim pleasure and satisfaction from suffering and all the nonintegrous levels of pride, anger, desire , guilt, shame, and grief. The secret pleasure of suffering is addictive. ...To stop this mechanisms, the pleasure of the payoff has to be identified and willingly surrendered to God. Out of shame, the ego blocks out conscious awareness of its machinations, especially the secretiveness of the game of 'victim'. p. 244 I Reality and Subjectivity by Dr. David R. Hawkins, M.D., PhD.
Permalink Reply by Diana on February 12, 2012 at 3:42pm In the readings I have done on the negative emotions, there is much reference in Dr. Hawkins' works to the negative emotions of anger, desire, guilt, shame and grief and pride. I have been looking for information about fear . I found this reference specifically to the addiction to fear. I also looked into the whole aspect of the physical addiction to the various neurochemicals that habitually flood our brain in response to specific emotional states, and there is lots of thinking-type information on it for anyone who wishes to study this. I think I have had enough..
"The negatives ...are pleasurably attractive. That perversity is one of the ego's strange twists by which people become addicted to the pleasure and excitement of risk and the pleasure of the fear of death and injury. The secret pleasure of horror is an attraction to the ego..."P.244
"The ego has learned to be very clever ....it is capable of resorting to any lengths or ruse of self-deception and camouflage. " He goes on to say that when the consciousness level goes up the game begins to reveal itself. p. 244 I, Reality and Subjectivity, by Dr. David R. Hawkins, Md., PhD.

Spiritual evolution is the automatic consequence of watching the mind---and its proclivities as an "it" ---from the general view-point of the paradigm of context rather than content. Instead of trying to force change, it is merely necessary to allow Divinity to do so by deeply surrendering all control, resistance, and illusions of gain or loss. It is not necessary to destroy or attack illusions but merely to allow them to fall away. ~Along the Path~ Feb.12~♥~
Permalink Reply by Diana on February 12, 2012 at 9:46pm I think I need to clarify what I wrote. When I write 'I think I have had enough" what I mean by this is that i am not giving up, i am just giving up trying to change the ego. It just goes on and on with its programs, and as fast as you think one has been eliminated another one pops up to take its place. The "and then what" exercise that Dr. Hawkins recommends is very useful in seeing the thought loops. So i am not trying to do anything with these endless thoughts, other than be aware of them and surrender them . What comes up is the beautiful alternative, Stillness, Silence, and Presence which is always available when we are not getting caught up in the other alternative. Thanks Angelena and Ignacio.

Permalink Reply by NachoTM on March 23, 2012 at 11:03am The first thing to understand about cancer or other serious illness is that the purpose of this major confrontation is for us to grow and grow rapidly as fast as we can because we have a certain time limit with terminal illnesses. Things that the mind says are fatal or terminal become fatal and terminal because of the power of the mind. If the mind thinks an illness is fatal and terminal, it will be so, subject, however, to karmic destiny. This illustrates the power of belief systems.
The most important message is that no one needs to succumb to or be the victim of any illness. I count among my friends many people who have conquered nearly every illness known to mankind thus far. The only reason I can write of these things today is because I myself did exactly the same thing in my per-sonal life. If I had not, I would have hemorrhaged to death from a variety of illnesses, all of which went into remission.
